The return of Operation Thermos
The STIB and the Operation Thermos non-profit organisation join forces every winter. In 2022, 26,822 meals were distributed by the association at the Botanique station, including 6,307 by the STIB's volunteer teams which hosted 43 of the reception events.
During the six months of the cold season, the STIB provides buses to transport meals and volunteers to the Botanique station. This service is provided by STIB drivers on a voluntary basis.
The Brussels public transport company and the Thermos non-profit organisation have a long-standing relationship. Since the beginning of the 1990s, the STIB has been associated with this work by taking charge of the preparation of meals, ensuring their transport as well as the reception of the beneficiaries and the logistical supervision of the distribution at the Botanique station.
