100% Belgian wind energy
The STIB needs electricity for the traction of its trams and its metro trains, but also for its infrastructure and, increasingly, for the powering of its buses. Wishing to free itself from the variability of market prices and to promote green and local energy, it has concluded a supply agreement with the Belgian wind energy producer, Aspiravi.
This contract was negotiated in 2022 and started in April 2023. It is planned for a period of 5 years and should cover 20% of the STIB's high voltage electricity consumption. In addition to its environmental benefits, this contract allows the STIB to save between 4 and 7 million euros over 5 years. This is good news for the planet and for the wallets of travellers and Brussels residents.
