The Gare Centrale gets a makeover
Since March 2022, the STIB, Brussels Mobility and Beliris have been working on the renovation of the Gare Centrale metro station, a multimodal hub that brings together the metro, train and bus. In a few years time, passengers will be able to enjoy a larger, brighter, more user-friendly and more accessible station. Artwork will enhance the station and the KIOSK outlet will be refurbished.
The work is planned to last until 2025 on the surface and for approximately two years underground.
The Gare Centrale opened in 1969. It was one of the first stations on the Brussels underground network, dating from the creation of the premetro between De Brouckère and Schuman. Needless to say, the public transportation network has evolved since then, as have the expectations and needs of passengers.
